School of the Croatian Language, Culture and Civilisation

The Rijeka Croatist School organises a two week School of the Croatian Language, Culture and Civilisation. The School is an ideal choice for students of  Croatistics and Slavistics from universities abroad who want to improve their knowledge of the Croatian language. Based on the level of knowledge, classes are divided into beginners, intermediate and advanced level. The beginners level places emphasis on the Language Workshop, the intermediate level programme also includes chosen lectures on the Croatian standard language, literature, culture and civilisation, and the advanced level in addition to all this  includes a course in functional stylistics of the Croatian standard language. The study program on all levels of knowledge also includes practice and field work – communication in everyday life, preparation for day trips (basic information on the destinations to be visited, on natural and cultural sights…), short presentations on famous people whose lives are connected to the places to be visited. Half-day and day trips will be organised for the students. These will include trips to Novi Vinodolski, the island of Krk, Istria,… With regard to this, Rijeka offers an array of attractive possibilities. It is located in the Kvarner Bay, the most northern part of the Adriatic coast. To the west of Rijeka the Opatija Riviera, the oldest and the most elite tourist region, and to the south the Crikvenica – Vinodol Riviera are located. Gorski kotar, Kvarner islands of Krk, Cres, Lošinj and Rab, and Istria, the beauty between the Alpine snow and Dante’s grave, as this largest Adriatic peninsula was described by the famous Croatian travel writer Matko Peić, are also in the immediate vicinity of Rijeka. We will take you on a trip following in the footsteps of the Glagolitic writers to Novi Vinodolski, Baška on the island of Krk, and to the Lane of Glagolitic Priests that stretches between the small Istrian towns of Roč and Hum. In Gorski kotar, the green heart of Croatia, we will visit the Risnjak National Park that will exhilarate you with the beauty of untouched nature, richness of flora and fauna, and numerous hiking tracks. The town of Rijeka will thrill you with its monument heritage, beautiful facades of palaces, fountains and parks. We will visit Trsat and Villa Ružić that connects Rijeka to the Croatian Andersen, writer Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić and her family.
The School offers you:
